Coolie Review : Twists, Mafia Wars, and a Showdown with Aamir Khan

Spoiler alert: Screen Saga provides you with a detailed review. So you will get to know the entire storyline from this digital piece and other noteworthy scenes that deserve your attention.
Part 1 – The Hostel, the Friend, and the Secret
The story of Coolie begins with the powerful presence of Rajinikanth (Deva), who now runs a hostel ( Deva Mansion) with a strict rule: no alcohol allowed. A man of discipline, Deva himself has been sober for the past 30 years, living by his vow of abstinence.
Soon, we are introduced to his closest friend, Rajshekhar, a brilliant but conflicted man working on an invention — an electric chair designed to dispose of dead bodies. At first, it seems eccentric, even suspicious. But the truth soon unravels: Rajshekhar has been working under the thumb of a drug mafia, secretly using his invention to eliminate bodies for them.
This wasn’t by choice. Rajshekhar was compelled into this dark path — the mafia threatened to kill his entire family if he refused. Despite his intelligence, his morality was compromised by fear.
The first act ends in tragedy: Rajshekhar is found dead under mysterious circumstances, leaving both the audience and Deva with unanswered questions. His death marks the beginning of Deva’s inevitable confrontation with the underworld.
Part 2 – Return to the Underworld
Deva’s search for the truth behind Rajshekhar’s death pulls him straight into the underworld. As he digs deeper, the film reveals his hidden past — 35 years ago, Deva had already brought down a powerful drug mafia, earning both fear and respect. Now, decades later, a new mafia has risen, and it’s this syndicate that Deva must confront.
To uncover the truth, Deva devises a daring plan. He infiltrates the mafia by presenting himself as an expert who knows how to operate Rajshekhar’s electric chair. The mafia, desperate to keep their operations hidden from the police, trusts him. With this clever disguise, Deva gets close enough to observe their methods, their hierarchy, and ultimately, the shadowy figures responsible for Rajshekhar’s death.
This act sets the stage for a game of deception, where Deva must walk a thin line — convincing the mafia he’s one of them, while secretly plotting their downfall from within.
Part 3 – The Final Showdown
In the climax, Deva finally defeats the Indian drug mafia, dismantling their network from within. Just when it seems the war is over, the real mastermind emerges — the mafia’s new head, operating from Mexico. It is none other than Aamir Khan, who steps in with a chilling revelation:
“You were the one who defeated my father… I know how powerful you are. Will you join me?”
Deva refuses without hesitation. His mission was never about power or profit — it was about avenging his friend Rajshekhar, who was killed without reason. With that, Deva walks away, leaving behind a message of loyalty, justice, and the weight of old battles fought for the right cause.
Should You Watch It?
At 2 hours 50 minutes, Coolie demands patience. But unlike many draggy thrillers, this one offers enough twists, revelations, and emotional stakes to keep you hooked till the end. With Rajinikanth’s commanding presence, layered storytelling, and a powerful face-off against Aamir Khan, the film succeeds in blending style with substance.
Verdict: A good watch — especially if you enjoy patient, twist-filled storytelling with strong performances.
