Part 1: How Osama became the authority in Afghanistan
Osama bin Laden was born into a Saudi Arabian family that had its own construction business. His life took a 360-degree turn when he decided to move to Afghanistan to fight the Soviet Union. Since the USA was also fighting the Soviet Union, it backed Osama with arms and ammunition. While the USA was just following a border strategy to defeat the Soviets, Osama bin Laden was gaining influence over the people of Afghanistan.
Within months, he became the authoritative figure in Afghanistan and decided to break ties with the United States and declare an open war against them. As the head of the Afghan government, his sole purpose was to make America come to its knees. Part 1 sets the stage for the 9/11 disaster and bloody conflict.
Part 2: George Bush Taking Quick Action
When the planes crashed inside the World Trade Centre, people first thought it was a movie scene that was taking place before they realised it was an actual reality. Netflix showed the raw footage of people witnessing the disaster and the loud cries of people on the streets. The death toll that was recorded was 2,996. The president of the USA requested that Afghanistan should hand over Osama bin Laden, but they refused.
George Bush did not waste time in planning the next move, but was incredibly swift to take action. He sent multiple teams to Afghanistan, bombed terror camps in Afghanistan, and relentlessly searched for Osama bin Laden. The search and destroy operation, along with aerial bombing, was successful, and the US thought that Osama was dead since no traces of him could be found.
Years later, Osama made a television appearance, stating that he was alive and well and promised the killings of Americans would continue. The chilling message was received by the US but also inspired mini terror attacks all over Europe. His ideologies rippled all over Europe.
Part 3: Mukhatar was the key
During the television appreance he requested the camera man to remain focused on his face. He mentioned the name mukhtar and that was the key in finding osama bin laden. They tracked mukhtar and US found out that he was hiding in a place called abottabad in Pakistan.
Note, Pakistan was an ally to the US government during this time, so any attack on Pakistan would mean diplomatic disaster. This is why SEAL teams were assigned, and they practiced catching Osama bin Laden over 100 times. A special stealth chopper was designed that would not come under Pakistani radar.
The operation Neptune Spear conducted by the US was successful. The choppers landed, the SEALS entered Osama’s house in Pakistan, and killed him around 12.30 am. The kill was not celebrated, but was an act of bringing justice to the American people.
