Ranbir Kapoor: I never wanted to do Ramayana, but later changed my mind when I became a father

Namit Malhotra makes YouTube explode as it introduces Ranbir Kapoor as Rama. Audiences have mixed reactions to watching the teaser. Some say it’s storytelling at its finest, others say it’s “ meh”.

This two-part franchise would showcase the story of lord Rama. When Ranbir Kapoor was asked how the experience was portraying the lord Rama, He said, “ I am no match for a God; all I am here is to learn from him. There is a simplicity and purity in him that is very hard to understand, and portraying him was a humbling experience “

When the director Nitesh Tiwari was asked to comment, he said, “ Rama is not about good and evil, it’s about the emotional richness. The weight of doing what is right despite the consequences is what makes the story so powerful” We have tried to stay very close to the text, and we believe that the market would like that.

The cast and crew of this film are powerful.  In front of the lens, the starcast includes Sunny Deol (Lord Hanuman), Ravie Dubey (Lakshman), Yash (Ravana), and Sai Pallavi (Sita). Behind the camera, we have an award-winning screenwriter, Shridhar Raghavan and Oscar-winning composers like Ar Rahman and Hans Zimmer. The first part opens this Diwali 2026, and the second part is scheduled during Diwali 2027.

Ranbir was initially opting out since it was a high-stakes project, but coincidentally, he became a father when this project was pitched to him. Later, he said yes because he thought “ A father always brings peace to the world and avoids conflict. He does so by doing his duty and never asking for glory”.  Now, when he became a father, he understands that.
