Little Brother Review: A Predictable Family Drama That Doesn't Work

Part 1: The Beginning

The story begins with Rudd Landy (played by John Cena), a New York real estate broker who has built a respectable career through hard work. He is selected to star in a reality television show called New York Hustlers, which follows the lives of successful real estate brokers in New York. Although it’s a major opportunity, Rudd constantly lives in the shadow of his own elder brother, Josh Landy (Played by Christopher Meloni)

His elder brother is a famous Hollywood movie star with millions of followers and immense popularity. Instead of supporting Rudd, he constantly bullies and humiliates him, making Rudd feel like the least successful member of the family.

Meanwhile, Marcus (played by Eric André) escapes from a psychiatric hospital with only one goal: to meet Rude Landy. During his voyage to meet Rudd, Marcus meets with an accident and ends up in a hospital. At the hospital, Rudd’s name was listed as Marcus’ emergency contact because Rudd had once volunteered to appear as his brother during a charity event when Marcus was a child. This incident finally brings the two together, and Rudd realizes that Marcus is the same boy he had once cared for years ago. Their emotional reunion becomes the turning point of the story and soon attracts the attention of the cameras filming New York Hustlers.

Part 2: Family, Conflict, and Heartbreak

As the story progresses, Marcus slowly becomes a part of Rudd’s family. His innocent nature and cheerful personality win everyone’s hearts, and even Rudd’s assistant begins to develop feelings for him.

At the same time, New York Hustlers realizes that Marcus can become a media sensation. Seeing the angle of interest in the “long-lost brother” story, they invite Marcus to appear on their television show, believing it will boost the show’s TRP and attract more viewers.

However, Rudd has had enough. Frustrated by everything that has happened, he lashes out at Marcus and tells him that their brotherhood means nothing to him. After discovering Marcus’ hospital identification tag, Rudd accuses him of being mentally unstable and questions his place in the family.

Heartbroken, Marcus reveals the truth. After Rudd left years ago, he was forced to move from one foster home to another without ever finding a permanent family. The loneliness and emotional pain became unbearable, eventually leading him to admit himself into a psychiatric hospital.

Unable to cope with Rudd’s harsh words, Marcus quietly walks away and voluntarily returns to the psychiatric hospital, believing that he truly has no place in anyone’s life.

Part 3: An Emotional Reunion

In the final part, Rudd finally realizes that Marcus truly loves him more than anything else in the world. Marcus never wanted fame, money, or recognition; he simply wanted to be accepted as Rudd’s brother and be part of a family.

At the same time, Rudd’s elder brother opens up and admits that he has always been jealous of Rudd. Despite being a famous movie star with millions of fans, he never had the warmth of a loving family, something Rudd had all along without realizing its true value.

Filled with regret, Rudd rushes to the psychiatric hospital to meet Marcus. He sincerely apologizes for his harsh words and asks Marcus to come back home. Touched by Rudd’s honesty, Marcus forgives him, and the two brothers reconcile.

The film ends on a heartwarming note. Marcus starts a new chapter in his life by becoming a real estate agent, and together with Rudd, they build a successful business. More importantly, Marcus finally finds the family and sense of belonging he had been searching for all his life.

Little Brother is a disappointing comedy-drama that struggles to keep the audience engaged. The humour rarely lands, with most of the jokes feeling forced rather than genuinely funny. The screenplay moves at a sluggish pace, making the film feel much longer than it actually is.

The biggest issue is the storytelling. The plot is predictable, lacks meaningful twists, and fails to create enough emotional impact despite its family-oriented premise. I found it so dull that it became difficult to stay invested even for the first 30 minutes.

While the film tries to deliver a heartfelt message about family and brotherhood, weak writing and uninspiring execution prevent it from leaving a lasting impression.
